Audubon Run for Liberty 5K Run/Walk is Saturday
The start time is 9 a.m. Saturday for the Run for Liberty 5K Run/Walk at Audubon Community Nature Center (ACNC) in Jamestown.
In honor of Bald Eagle Liberty’s 20th anniversary in residence, Audubon brought back the original name to this annual event. Registration is from 8 to 8:45 a.m. with the race starting at 9 a.m. and an awards ceremony at10:30 a.m. in the Stephanie Frucella Education Pavilion in Audubon’s backyard.
The Run for Liberty travels through forests and fields, past ponds, and over boardwalks as the race winds through the trail system.
The race takes place rain or shine and covers uneven ground and bridges. Most is on bare ground, with one small section along pavement. The trail will be well marked with white signs showing the way.
Prizes are awarded to the first three overall male and female walker and runner finishers. Age group awards are given to the top three finishers in each division for runners and top finisher in each division for walkers.
The Run for Liberty was Audubon’s first 5K and the money raised went to support her care and upkeep. This year ACNC is welcoming new birds of prey to join Liberty as animal ambassadors to teach visitors about their lives.
Fee is $30 or $25 for Nature Center members and Striders runners.
Pre-registration is appreciated through the link at AudubonCNC.org. Walk-ins are welcome.
Run for Liberty 5K is sponsored by Jamestown Container Companies, Lakewood Apothecary and Shults Auto Group.
